So far I have resolved most of the issues and I’m slowly learning how to deal with various issues I’m encountering (eg share exchange inside 529 account). I’ve decided to invest time and energy with Quicken. Would love a few others opinions on this and also if you have specific suggestions for the items above. I thought I would bite the bullet now and get things cleaned up as much as possible and then it will be easy maintenance every month or quarter and then it is easier to also show and get my DW more involved. improvements to a home when you sell the home which I will do in the next few years which adjusts your cost basis.

I like that with quicken I can take photos of receipts and tag/track everything and has a lot of functionality but it still has some manual parts. My thinking is that our finances are always sort of messy and given that I want to have a good audit trail and good records I wanted to get much more organized so was looking for something better that just spreadsheets.

V) Speaking of assets how do you connect a car asset to a car loan? I also can periodically update the car value. Is this recorded under "investments" or "assets"? I don't mind the software license fee and I think that with Quicken being independent there is some investment and chance for it to improve over time. However, even with Quicken I'm not sure how to do some things and need some help getting over the learning curve.
