Students hate impero console
It was extremely responsive, had an intuitive UI, and the teacher client runs in a browser so it doesn't require any installation/configuration for a teacher to use it. I have checked out a few demos and played with the class management feature, this thing seems like our final answer. We are looking into GoGuardian which is a cloudbased class management tool for Chromebooks.

Right now our district is going one to one with Chromebooks- we will be dropping almost all of our Windows PCs. Is there anything out there that we have tried that is better for windows PCs? Not really. TLDR: Am I bashing insight a little? Yes. In our tech-ed classrooms, the 'broadcast screen' feature does not work with applications that are using directX/directdraw such as AutoCAD, Solidworks, etc. If for some reason the teacher client stops responding/glitches/crashes, there is no way to start it back up (at least a teacher isn't going to be able to) as it runs as a service, woohoo! Your staff members will have to reboot or log off/on again for the teacher client to start back up. Insight for whatever reason has a hard time pulling student names from active directory, so at time teachers only see the student ID (ex. When I called faronics support a month ago they couldn't even tell me when or which version of Firefox was supported last. If you use Firefox, beware- Insight has issues blocking websites on the latest version. I haven't found anything that is better though. It is not very responsive, even on a gigabit LAN connection using i7 desktops with 8GB of RAM and dedicated video cards.

The first few version of the software we used were garbage, over the years it has gotten better. Teacher client configuration is a bit cumbersome but yes, they do allow for msi switches, could use a batch file that does all the things you need to point teacher machines to the connection server and proper channel.
Similar to Imperio, you can use a connection server that all machines point to, then assign each lab (or class) a channel. We have had Faronics Insight since 2011, we are currently using it on around 900 devices (Windows, and ChromeOS). It IS clunky, it does have features that flat out don't work (such as being able to speak to the class via mic), but it does a lot. I can't say it has been the most painless class management software we have used. We have also used NetControl and that is even clunkier than Insight. PM me and I can elaborate.Īs you probably know, Faronics Insight is a direct clone of Stoneware/Lanschool. How many machines are you managing, and which OS(s)? If you plan on using Chromebooks at all forget about Insight, there are way too many issues with the ChromeOS client.
